About Yourself

I consider myself knowledgable in the field of music (not necesarily classical) compared with the public at large.

I consider myself to be enthusiastic and knowledgable about opera compared with the public at large.

I am more interested in attending "artistic" or "cultural" events than other entertainments events, such as live sporting events, pubs, night clubs etc.

About how you enjoy music, opera or theatre

I enjoy attending live entertainment events

I enjoy recordings of entertainment events (Video/DVD/CD/LP/what have you)

If I'm listening to/watching a recording of music/opera/drama, the quality of sound and video is very important to me to the extent that I can't fully enjoy the performance without highly realistic reproduction.

What you would like technology to do for you

This section is concerned with what features you would like to have access to in your home. In answering, please disregard whether or not you consider the idea feasible. For brevity, we have used the word "opera" throughout, but please consider the quesions as applied to any live music/theatre event if you are not particularly familar with opera.

When I see an opera advertised, I'd like to be able to learn more about it on line (find out about the plot, hear audio clips and so forth).

I'd like to be able to compare different recorded performances of the opera, read comparative reviews which are annotated with audio and video clips.

I'd like to be able to buy tickets on-line.

If I decide to buy a ticket, I'd like to get an idea of the kind of view and sound I could experience through a virtual reality simulation of the opera house.

I would value the opportunity to see more of a production by a particular company at a particular opera house than I can from my seat (back-stage video etc).

I'd value being able to find out much more about the production I am about to see, whether live or recorded, such as interviews with the director and producers, "making of..." features etc.

I'd value having access to full-length opera recordings enhanced with features such as synchronised presentation of libretto (words) and score (music), along with directors' notes.

I'd value the ability to control the "mix" of the recording I see on-line to bring out particular parts of the orchestra or particular singers.

I'd value being able to join in with an on-line performance (like a karaoke).

I'd value being able to direct an on-line performance (like a conductor, using an electronic baton of some sort to control phrasing, dynamic, tempo, etc.).

I would value the ability when watching a performance on-line to be able to pause the action, and explore information about the plot, charaterisation and music.

I'd value being part of a virtual 3D performance, on stage with stylised singers.

I'd value the chance in interacting with fellow enthusiasts through joining chat groups and discussing the opera using extracts from the recordings I have watched.

I'd value the the facility to set up my own productions on line with groups of friends, all of us singing along with singers from a particular production.

That's all!
